Sorrow is a Teacher

Sorrow does something to a person.

We face sorrow in the early morning hours when sleep escapes us. We remember the loss, the hurt, the sadness, and wish it would leave us alone for awhile.

There are grades of sorrow according to its source. As hard as it may be, we must come to terms with sorrow’s presence in our lives.

Sorrow can be a teacher. It teaches us to look beyond ourselves, to help others, or reach out to God, that is, if we want to be healthy in our emotions.

The world seems gray and out of focus when we are in the depths of sorrow mixed with despair and pain. We must find hope from within and from without ourselves.

Friends who listen to us are a lifeline during the sorrowing. They provide hope that life will get better. They understand. They care—a lot.

If you are sorrowing, know that others care. We have walked its painful road and know its loneliness. It will get better. There is always hope.

Sorrow need not defeat us.

There is always hope, and a new day. The sun will rise again.
