The treasured porcelain pitcher lay shattered at her feel. A muffled sob betrayed her outward calm. Grandma seemed as far away and lost as the shards she was sweeping in the dust pan. Alzheimer’s had seen to that, robbing Grandma of gaiety and her once joy-filled, keen presence. How does one retrieve what one has lost?

Then she noticed a folded slip of paper amid the fragments, Grandma’s ancient blue script was still legible but fading,

“My dear Elizabeth, For you, with all my love. Christmas 1970. Grandma Browne
‘Love conquers all.’”

Yes, oh yes, thank you.

This was my third 100 word Christmas writing. I didn’t enter it in the contest but thought you might enjoy reading it. I stumbled across it a moment ago. I didn’t spend much time working on it, but I like the thread. It is written to remind us of our loved ones, whose memories are fading, still love us despite the illness.
